City Flower Delivery: How to Get Flowers to a Door in Any Russian City
City flower delivery means a bouquet is brought by courier to any address within a town's limits, usually on the same day you order. With us, delivery within a Russian city costs 500 RUB, and in large cities express delivery arrives 1-2 hours after your order is confirmed; you can also pick an exact time or a time window instead.
That is the short answer. The longer one is worth reading if you are ordering from another country, because a few practical details, such as how you write the address, which time window you choose and what happens if the recipient is out, decide whether the surprise goes smoothly. Here is how we would explain it to a friend.
How city delivery works, step by step
You choose a bouquet on the site, enter the recipient's name, phone number and address, select the delivery time and write the text for the card. Payment is made online by bank card, SBP or Yandex Pay. After that, the operator confirms the order; for an address in a remote district or suburb, this is also the moment when the delivery price is confirmed, since it can differ from the standard 500 RUB city rate.
The bouquet is then prepared and handed to a courier. About 15 minutes before arrival, the courier calls the recipient so that they can come to the door or open the building entrance. Most Russian apartment blocks have a locked door with an intercom, so this call is what makes delivery to a flat work smoothly.
The recipient gets the flowers and your card in person. Delivery is anonymous by default: the courier does not say who sent the bouquet. If you want them to know, simply sign the card; the card itself is free.
Choosing the right delivery time
You have four ways to schedule. Express delivery, available in large cities, takes 1-2 hours from confirmation, which is ideal when you have just remembered a birthday. An exact time, accurate to plus or minus 30 minutes, suits a planned moment such as the end of a work meeting or the start of a dinner. Time windows of 09-12, 12-15, 15-18 and 18-21 are the most flexible option. Finally, you can pre-order 1-30 days ahead.
From experience, a few rules help. For a birthday, morning delivery in the 09-12 window lets the recipient enjoy the flowers all day. For office delivery, avoid the first hour of the working day and lunchtime, and add the company name and floor to the address. For elderly parents, late morning or early afternoon is usually best, because they tend to be at home and awake.
Remember the time difference. Russia spans eleven time zones, and the time window you choose is local time at the recipient's address. If you live in London or New York and order for Novosibirsk or Vladivostok, check the clock there before choosing a slot.
Bouquets we can deliver
Writing the address so the courier finds it first time
Russian addresses have more parts than many people abroad expect. Give the city, street, building number, and if relevant the korpus or stroenie (block or structure number), then the entrance (podyezd), floor and flat number. If you know the intercom code, add it. For a new residential complex, the name of the complex is useful too, because the streets there are often newer than navigation maps.
The recipient's phone number is essential. It is how the courier calls ahead, and it is the only way to solve problems on the spot, such as a broken intercom or a gated courtyard. If you want the delivery to remain a total surprise, you can still give the number: the courier only calls about 15 minutes before arriving.
For offices, universities and hospitals, write the department, room or ward, and consider whether the recipient can come down to the reception. In some hospitals flowers are not allowed into wards, so check with the recipient's family if you can.
If the recipient is not at home
It happens more often than you would think: the recipient has gone to the shop, is stuck at work or simply did not hear the phone. In that case we agree a second delivery the same day, or, with your consent, hand the bouquet to a neighbour or the concierge. Many Russian buildings have a concierge on the ground floor, and this is a perfectly normal solution.
To reduce the risk, choose a time window when you are fairly sure someone is in, and mention any useful detail in the order, for example that the recipient works night shifts and sleeps until noon. The easiest way to agree those details is to message a manager on WhatsApp; they can also send you a photo of the bouquet before delivery.
What to write on the card
The card is free, and it turns a delivery into a personal message. Keep it short: two or three lines read better than a paragraph squeezed onto a small card. Writing in Russian is a lovely touch if the recipient is an older relative; a simple "S dnyom rozhdeniya, mama!" in Latin letters still makes the point, but if you can type the greeting in Russian, it will feel warmer.
For a partner, one honest sentence is enough. For a colleague or a teacher, a thank-you plus your name works best. If you want to stay anonymous, leave the card unsigned or add a playful hint, such as "From someone who remembers your birthday". Avoid jokes that only work in English; irony rarely survives translation on a small card.
Choosing flowers that look good on arrival
Within a city, the journey from preparation to the door is short, so almost any bouquet arrives fresh. Still, some choices behave better than others. Roses, chrysanthemums, alstroemeria and carnations are robust and last a long time in a vase. Tulips and peonies are beautiful but more delicate, and peonies continue opening for a day or two, which many recipients love.
In winter, Russian cities can be very cold, and flowers suffer from frost within minutes. A well-wrapped bouquet handed over directly at the door survives perfectly, which is one more reason to choose a time when the recipient is home. A bouquet in a box or a basket is also a practical option, because the recipient does not need to find a vase straight away.
Remember the odd-number rule: in Russia, bouquets for living people always contain an odd number of stems, while even numbers are for funerals. Most ready-made bouquets in our catalogue are already composed with this in mind.
Delivery to smaller towns, not just big cities
City delivery is not limited to Moscow and Saint Petersburg. We deliver flowers across Russia, including to smaller towns where relatives of many people abroad still live. Express delivery in 1-2 hours applies to large cities; for smaller places, scheduling a time window or ordering a day or two ahead is the reliable choice.
If you are sending to a smaller town, our guides show what to expect locally, for example flower delivery in Elektrostal or sending flowers to Langepas. For costs, remote districts and suburbs are priced individually and confirmed by the operator, while delivery within city limits stays at 500 RUB. The full conditions are on the delivery and payment page.
