How a Flower Transport System Protects Your Bouquet

How a Flower Transport System Protects Your Bouquet

A flower transport system is the combination of hydration, protective packaging, stable positioning and coordinated handling used to move flowers while limiting wilting and physical damage. For a single bouquet, it can be as simple as protected stems and a secure upright support; for larger loads, it also involves organising containers, controlling conditions and planning the journey.

The useful question is which parts of that system your flowers actually need. A short trip with a hand-tied bouquet presents different problems from moving several arrangements or sending a gift to someone in Russia. Start with the flowers’ condition, choose support that suits their shape, and make sure someone can receive them without an avoidable wait.

Start with hydration and the condition of the flowers

Packing cannot restore flowers that are already dehydrated. Before a journey, place cut stems in a clean vase with fresh water and let the flowers hydrate. Remove any leaves that would sit below the waterline, and use clean tools if you recut the stems. Keep the bouquet away from direct sun and heaters while you prepare the remaining materials.

Check the bouquet for anything likely to cause damage in transit: a broken stem, a loose tie, wet decorative paper or a flower head pressed against stiff wrapping. Support should hold the stems together without squeezing them. Give delicate outer petals enough room that lifting the bouquet does not drag them against a cardboard edge or a tight sleeve.

For a journey without a vase, a moist stem wrap can help reduce drying, but it needs a leak-resistant outer layer that stays below the flower heads. It is a temporary measure, not a substitute for putting the flowers back into water. Keep absorbent material clear of petals, and check that moisture cannot escape onto seats, clothing or decorative packaging.

Choose packaging that supports the bouquet’s shape

Think of transport packaging as two separate parts: a protective layer around the flowers and a support that prevents the whole bouquet from moving. Paper or a suitable sleeve can reduce rubbing and snagging, while a box or carrier can stabilise the lower stems. Neither works well if the bouquet can slide freely inside it.

Choose a container that holds the lower part securely without forcing flower heads against its sides. Fill empty space around the base with clean packing material, keeping it away from petals and foliage. Lift the packed bouquet gently to check the fit: the base should stay in place, and the upper stems should not bend sharply against the rim.

A bouquet in a vase needs support for the vessel as well as the stems. A tall, narrow vase may tip even when the flowers themselves are well wrapped. If you cannot secure it reliably, consider carrying the bouquet separately and preparing a vase at the destination. Our guide to packing flowers for transport explains the packing steps in more detail.

Keep flowers stable during the journey

In a car, use a level position where the container can be restrained and cannot slide during braking or cornering. Keep flowers clear of the driver’s view, pedals and vehicle controls. A passenger holding an unsecured vase is a poor substitute for a stable carrier: even a small movement can spill water or push stems against the vase rim.

Keep the bouquet out of direct sunlight and away from strong air blowing from vents. Do not leave flowers in a parked car while you run other errands; conditions inside can change quickly. Prepare the route and receiving address before loading, so the flowers spend less time waiting between their water source and the destination.

On foot or public transport, carry the bouquet with the flower heads clear of bags, doors and other passengers. Hold the carrier close enough to control it without compressing the wrapping against your body. Large bouquets need particular care at entrances and on stairs; check their width before passing through a narrow space. Plan the handover as carefully as the packing

A transport system includes the moment the flowers change hands. Before setting off, confirm the full address, entrance details and whether the recipient will be available. If the gift is for an office, hospital or venue, check its receiving rules yourself. A correct street address alone may not be enough to get a bouquet promptly to the person you intend.

For a surprise, choose a time when the recipient can reasonably accept and care for the flowers. Delivery just before they leave for a long outing may create an awkward carrying problem. If you are ordering from another country, check the recipient’s local date and time before selecting a slot, especially when the occasion falls close to midnight where you live.

For Turboflora deliveries, the courier calls the recipient about 15 minutes before arrival. If the recipient is absent, we agree a second delivery the same day or handing the flowers to a neighbour or concierge with the sender’s consent. Useful contact and access details make those decisions easier; tell us about any known difficulty when arranging the order.

Arrange flower delivery to Russia from abroad

We deliver flowers across Russia. You can start with the bouquets catalogue, then prepare the recipient’s address, phone number, preferred delivery date and card text. City delivery costs 500 RUB. For remote districts and suburbs, the operator confirms the delivery price when confirming the order, so leave room to agree those details before treating the arrangements as settled.

Express delivery in large cities is available within 1–2 hours after the order is confirmed. You can also arrange delivery at an exact time with a tolerance of plus or minus 30 minutes, choose a window of 09–12, 12–15, 15–18 or 18–21, or pre-order 1–30 days ahead. Check the delivery and payment information when deciding which option fits the recipient’s day.

Contact a manager on WhatsApp for help choosing a bouquet and agreeing the time, address and card text, or to arrange a photo of the bouquet before delivery. Online checkout uses CloudPayments; check the payment options displayed there, as acceptance of every foreign card cannot be assumed. Delivery is anonymous by default: the courier does not name the sender, and a card with your text is free.

Finish the journey with careful unpacking and vase care

Have a clean vase ready before removing transport materials. Set the bouquet on a clear surface, release the outer support carefully and check for a temporary wrap around the stem ends. Remove that wrap before placing the flowers in water. Ease packaging away from petals rather than pulling the flower heads through a narrow opening.

Use clean water and remove foliage that would sit beneath its surface. If flower food is supplied, follow the packet’s dilution instructions instead of guessing the amount. Recut stems with a clean, sharp tool where needed, and choose a vase that supports the bouquet without crowding every stem tightly into the neck. Check the water regularly and refresh it when it becomes cloudy.

Place the arrangement away from direct sun, heaters, strong draughts and ripening fruit. Different flowers develop and age at different rates, so remove spent blooms as they fade and keep the remaining stems in clean water. If you are sending flowers as a gift, a short care note can be helpful; keep the personal card focused on the occasion and sign it if you want the recipient to know who sent it.

Frequently asked questions

What does a flower transport system include?

It includes hydration, protective wrapping, support that prevents movement, suitable travel conditions and a planned handover. The equipment depends on whether you are moving a single bouquet, a vase arrangement or several containers.

Should flowers travel in water?

Access to water helps maintain hydration, but an unsecured water-filled vase can spill or tip. For a short journey, a properly contained moist stem wrap may be practical; return the stems to clean water promptly on arrival.

How quickly can Turboflora deliver flowers in Russia?

Express delivery in large cities is available within 1–2 hours after the order is confirmed. You can also arrange an exact time with a tolerance of plus or minus 30 minutes, select a listed delivery window, or pre-order 1–30 days ahead.

Can I pay for flowers to Russia with a foreign card?

Online checkout uses CloudPayments. Check the options displayed at checkout, because acceptance of every foreign card is not guaranteed.

Will the recipient know who sent the flowers?

Delivery is anonymous by default, and the courier does not name the sender. A card with your text is free, so include your name in the message if you want the recipient to recognise the gift.
