How to Send Flowers to Hamburg
You can send flowers to Hamburg with Turboflora: Hamburg is on our list of delivery cities in Germany. Open the Hamburg delivery page, choose a bouquet, enter the recipient's address and the text for the card, and pay online in rubles; the price shown already includes delivery.
Below is a practical guide from a florist's point of view: how the order works, how to write a German address so the bouquet reaches the right door, which flowers suit German etiquette, and how to time a delivery for a birthday or a holiday. There is also a note for anyone who meant Hamburg in the United States.
How ordering to Hamburg works
An order abroad is placed the same way as an order within Russia. You pick a bouquet on the country or city page, fill in the recipient's details, write the card text and pay online by bank card, SBP or Yandex Pay. The amount is already converted to rubles and includes delivery, so there is no separate fee to calculate at checkout.
The city page is in Russian, but the order form is short and the fields are easy to follow: recipient's name, phone, address, date and card message. If anything is unclear, our manager on WhatsApp can help you choose a bouquet, agree the date and wording, and send a photo of the bouquet before delivery.
Write the card text in the language the recipient reads most comfortably. German friends will appreciate a short message in German or English; for a Russian-speaking family in Hamburg, a few warm lines in Russian written in Latin letters or in your own words will feel personal. Keep it to two or three sentences so it fits the card neatly.
Give yourself a little time. The express and time-window options we offer in Russian cities do not apply to deliveries abroad, so for a birthday or an anniversary in Hamburg it is best to order a few days ahead and agree the date with the manager.
Hamburg, Germany or Hamburg in the USA?
Most people searching for Hamburg mean the German port city on the Elbe, the second largest city in Germany. But there is more than one Hamburg on our list: we also deliver to Hamburg in the United States, with its own page for Hamburg, New Jersey.
Check with the recipient which one they live in before you pay, especially if all you have is a name of a town from a conversation. A US address will have a state and a five-digit ZIP code; a German one will have a five-digit Postleitzahl and no state.
If your friends or family are elsewhere in Germany, we deliver to 45 German cities, including Berlin, Potsdam, Düsseldorf, Bonn, Leipzig and Münster. The full list is on the Germany delivery page.
Hamburg is a large city with several districts that feel like towns of their own, from Blankenese on the riverbank to Bergedorf in the south-east. When you enter the address, write the street, house number and postcode exactly as the recipient gave them, rather than the district name alone.
Bouquets we can deliver
Writing a German address correctly
German addresses put the street first and the house number after it: Musterstraße 12, then the five-digit postcode and the city on the next line. Hamburg postcodes start with 20, 21 or 22. If the street name ends in -straße, writing -strasse is fine.
Flats in German apartment buildings are rarely identified by number. Instead, each doorbell carries the resident's surname, so the name on the order must match the name on the bell. If your recipient lives with a partner or rents a room, add "c/o" and the name that is actually on the bell, or mention it in the comment field.
Always include a phone number that works in Germany or a mobile number the recipient answers. In large Hamburg districts such as Altona, Eimsbüttel or Winterhude, buildings often have a front house and a rear house (Vorderhaus and Hinterhaus) at the same number, and a quick call is the easiest way to find the right entrance.
Choosing flowers for German etiquette
German flower etiquette is relaxed compared with Russia, but a few associations are strong. Chrysanthemums, white lilies and calla lilies are closely linked with funerals and cemeteries, so keep them for sympathy flowers. Red roses say romance and can feel awkward for a colleague, a teacher or a friend's mother.
For birthdays and thank-you gifts, mixed seasonal bouquets work well: tulips and ranunculus in spring, peonies and garden roses in early summer, sunflowers and dahlias in late summer and autumn. Soft colours such as cream, peach and blush pink are a safe choice when you do not know the recipient's taste.
Germans do not follow the Russian rule of odd numbers for living recipients as strictly, but an odd number of stems still looks balanced and will never offend. If you send a bouquet to a Russian-speaking family in Hamburg, keep the odd number: for them it matters.
When Germans hand over flowers in person, they traditionally remove the paper wrapping first. With a delivered bouquet this does not apply, but it shows how much attention is paid to the flowers themselves: a well-chosen, fresh bouquet of a few varieties will make a better impression in Hamburg than a very large one.
Timing for birthdays and holidays
There is one German superstition worth knowing: you never congratulate someone before their birthday. Early wishes are considered bad luck, so schedule a birthday bouquet for the day itself or, if delivery dates do not line up, for a day after.
In Germany Mother's Day falls on the second Sunday of May, and Valentine's Day is also popular. Around these dates it is wise to order well in advance, and remember that Sundays and public holidays are quiet days in Germany: agree the delivery date with our manager before paying.
If you are sending flowers for a wedding, a new baby or a housewarming, the date is more flexible, and delivering a day or two after the event is completely natural. For condolences, sooner is better, and a calm palette of white, cream and green with a short, simple message is appropriate.
Helping the bouquet last in a Hamburg flat
Hamburg has a damp maritime climate, and in winter flats are well heated. Ask the recipient to recut the stems at an angle by about two centimetres, put the bouquet in a clean vase with cool water and keep it away from radiators and the fruit bowl, since ripening fruit releases ethylene that shortens flower life.
Changing the water every two days and trimming the stems again each time will add several days to most bouquets. Roses and chrysanthemums last longest, while tulips keep growing in the vase and will lean towards the window, which is perfectly normal. For delivery to any other country, the full list of destinations is on our flower delivery abroad page.
A bouquet in a box or a basket with floral foam needs a slightly different routine: no vase, just a little water poured into the foam every day or two so it stays moist but not flooded. We deliver bouquets across Russia in 1–2 hours.
